Mission Statement:

The Town of Glenville Police department is dedicated to providing public safety by serving the community with professionalism and integrity, in a manner to instill a sense of pride and respect, both within our department and our community while recognizing the importance of the safety of our members.

Command Leadership

Message From the Chief:

Stephen Janik

Chief of Police

Welcome to the Glenville Police Department’s recently developed website. Our goal is to provide residents with information about our programs, events, crime trends, significant accomplishments, new hires and promotions, and to ensure complete transparency regarding our mission and objectives.

The primary function of the Chief of Police is to manage and oversee the daily operations of the Department. Preparing the annual budget and maintaining fiscal responsibility within its guidelines is paramount. Each year, we establish departmental goals in collaboration with the Town Board and members of the Police Department. It is especially rewarding when our accomplishments reflect the goals we set at the beginning of the year.

Community engagement has always been the most enjoyable and meaningful part of this profession. We value public feedback and take all complaints seriously. Our department strives to provide the highest level of community service—bar none. We are grateful for the strong support and appreciation shown by our residents.

We continue to seek outstanding police candidates, particularly Glenville residents who have successfully passed the Schenectady County Civil Service examination. We also welcome professional and talented lateral transfers who are interested in joining a department that feels more like a family than simply a workplace.

Deputy Chief

Casey Greene

Lieutenant

Meredith Kaiser

The Glenville Police Department employs twenty-seven (27) sworn members serving in the Patrol Division, Traffic Safety Division, School Resource Division, Detective Division, and supervisory ranks including Sergeants, Lieutenant, Deputy Chief, and Chief. We are supported by three (3) civilian personnel: the Secretary to the Chief, Discovery Clerk, and Dog Control Officer.

As a 24/7 operation, we patrol approximately fifty (50) square miles and serve a population of roughly thirty thousand (30,000) residents. We take pride in being a true community-focused police department. Our community events—including our annual Trunk-or-Treat, Bike Rodeo, Coffee with a Cop, and Fill-a-Backpack program—allow us to interact with residents on a personal level.

We are one of the few departments that still offer house checks for vacant properties or when residents are on vacation. We also assist with vehicle lockouts when keys are accidentally left inside. During the warmer months, our bicycle patrol unit enhances our presence in neighborhoods and business districts, providing a more personal and approachable style of policing.

Our Comfort Canine Program features a certified therapy dog that visits schools, adult living facilities, and individuals who may have been victims of crime. Additionally, many of our officers are New York State certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians and are available to inspect car seats to ensure proper installation. Defective or recalled seats may also be replaced when available.

I, along with many of our officers, proudly reside in Glenville. We share a deep personal connection to this community and have a vested interest in keeping it safe. In 2026, I will mark my tenth year serving as Chief of Police and my twenty-ninth year serving the Glenville community as part of a thirty-six-year law enforcement career. It has truly been an honor and a privilege.

I look forward to what the future holds and remain confident that the men and women of this department share the same commitment, integrity, and dedication to those we serve.

Our Mission Statement, found above, defines who we are and how we serve. Please feel free to contact me, the Deputy Chief, Lieutenant, Sergeants, or any member of our department with questions or concerns at 518-688-1200.
